EMILY's List Australia is a non-profit, membership based Incorporated Association run through a combination of volunteers and paid staff. The organisation is governed by a National Committee , who sets the strategic agenda for the organisation and employs paid staff to implement the operational plan for the organisation. National Committee is chaired by two, elected National Co-Convenors.
EMILY's List Australia's National Office Staff are based in Melbourne and led by a National Co-ordinator. For the first nine years of its operation, the CEO of the organisation was former Premier of Victoria and EMILY's List Founder, Joan Kirner, who provided her extensive networks and skills to the organisation pro bono.
Joan is now an EMILY's List Ambassador , promoting the organisation in Australia and internationally. She is one of a number of illustrious and passionate women who founded the organisation and continue to support its work.
Many of these women continue to be involved in local organising entities, EMILY's List Action Groups (or ELAGs, as they are known), which co-ordinate Candidate and MP Support and Fundraising activities in each State and Territory. It is through this core group of active volunteers that the work of EMILY's List is achieved. Meetings of these groups are open to any interested woman (or man). Ultimately, the real work and impact of EMILY's List is achieved through our Members, who make the donations to candidates, volunteer their time to campaigns, assist us in our lobbying, make donations to Gender Gap Research and send supportive notes to our progressive MPs.
