Laura Smyth

Laura Smyth Federal Candidate for La Trobe

Laura went to primary and secondary school in North Dandenong and Oakleigh. She went on to study at Monash University in Clayton, where she completed a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Law with honours.

While studying, Laura represented students in university committees and was President of the Victorian branch of the National Union of Students. As a student, she was actively involved in campaigns relating to education and student welfare.

Laura supported herself at university working at the St Vincent De Paul Nursing Home in Box Hill and later worked as an electorate staffer for a local member of parliament in south eastern Melbourne.

Laura has worked as a corporate and commercial lawyer for almost a decade. During her career, she has often acted on a pro bono basis for a wide range of individuals, non-profit and charitable organisations in need of assistance. She has also volunteered as a lawyer at a number of community legal services.

Laura is currently completing a Masters in Law at the University of Melbourne, with a focus in international and human rights law.

Outside of work, study and political involvement, Laura enjoys supporting local Australian comedy, musicians and entertainers and is an active supporter of the arts.
