Senator for the Northern Territory


Senator Trish Crossin has represented the Northern Territory in the Senate since 1998 and is the first woman elected to federal parliament from the NT.

She has been a member of the ALP since the early 80s and is currently President of the NT Branch.

Trish has a Batchelor of Education and taught in Primary Schools in Melbourne and Yirrkala and Darwin in the NT for over ten years and then as an Industrial Officer with the Education Unions and the Miscellaneous Workers Union.

Trish is Chair of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Legislation Committee and Deputy Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Rural and Regional Indigenous Communities.

She is involved in the Asthma Foundation of the NT, Patron of the NT Netball Association and life member of the NT Working Women's Centre and the National Tertiary Education Union. She is a founding member of Emily's List – a political support network that aims to get more women elected to Parliament and in 2009 Trish was appointed a National Ambassador for Dragons Abreast Australia in recognition of her long ongoing support for the breast cancer cause.
