EMILY's List congratulates all its candidates on excellent community based campaigns in the Federal election.
EMILY's List supported 54 candidates in the election.
In the House of Representatives, 18 of the 46 EMILY's List women were elected. This brings the number of Labor women in the House of Representatives to 22, a new gain of 4.
In the Senate, all six EMILY's List supported women were elected. There has been a net gain of Labor women in the Senate of 2 women, rising to 11.
This includes 10 new MPs, bringing the number of EMILY's List new progressive women candidates to 70 in just five years.
Sitting Members Kelly Hoare, Jill Hall, Julia Irwin, Tanya Plibersek, Ann Corcoran, Jenny Macklin, Julia Gillard, Kirsten Livermore, Carmen Lawrence, Jann McFarlane and Michelle O'Byrne were returned to their seats.
Michelle O'Byrne and Kirsten Livermore both recorded swings to Labor of 2.15% and 2.48% respectively.
Catherine King has been elected the new member for Ballarat (Vic), with a swing of 5.75%.
Sharryn Jackson has been elected to the new seat of Hasluck in Western Australia.
EMILY's List also congratulates Maria Vamvakinou, Sharon Grierson, Jennie George who were elected in safe seats.
Both Cheryl Dorron (Hinkler, QLD) and Laurene Hull (Solomon, NT) await final results but are slightly ahead.
We are extremely disappointed that two great EMILY's List supported candidates Leonie Short (Ryan) and Cheryl Kernot (Dickson) were defeated and we wish them well in the future.
