Mollie Smith Award
Since 2000, the ‘Mollie Smith Award’ has been presented annually by her family to honour their mother Mollie Smith’s many years of volunteer service to the Labor Party. Mollie is honoured for her support for issues affecting women, her community work and her mentoring of young women interested in politics and community action.
Nominations are made by National Committee members and the National Committee makes the ultimate decision based on the following criteria:
- be a member of EMILY’s List
- be EMILY’s list volunteers who have made a major ongoing contribution to the growth and development of EMILY’s List in one or more areas of its responsibilities – political campaigns; administrative work; mentoring; fundraising; gender gap research; training; communications and membership etc.
- not be, at the time of winning the Award, a National Committee member of EMILY’s List
- be active in encouraging women to join and participate in EMILY’s List
- have demonstrated a commitment to EMILY’ s List’s principles

The EMILY Award
The EMILY Award is given annually by the National Committee of EMILY’s List
Some recipients of the EMILY award to date have been:
- 2009 – Joint recipients – Julia Gillard, Federal Minister for Workplace Relations (abolition of WorkChoices) & Maxine Morand, Minister for Women’s Affairs (abortion law rerform in Victoria)
- 2002 - Kay Setches (Vic) for her significant contribution to EMILY’s List through her active involvement, in particular her groundbreaking work in establishing significant benchmarks at a national level with her fundraising skills.
- 2001 – Joint recipients - Carol Martin, MLA for Kimberley (WA) the first Indigenous women to be elected to any Parliament in Australia, and Jenny Beacham (Vic), her mentor and campaign adviser who worked in the Kimberley on two occasions to assist Carol’s winning campaign.
- 2000 - Helen Creed (WA), as a political and union leader and activist, a former EL National Co-convenor
- 1998 - Inaugural recipient, Cheryl Davenport (WA), for undertaking abortion law reform in WA. This was done via her Private Member’s Bill, from the Legislative Council and whilst in Opposition
The Pat Giles Award
The Pat Giles Award is awarded to a woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of women in the Western Australian Labor movement.
The "Don't be too polite girl" Award
This award recognises and encourages an active young woman contributing to the Labor movement.
