Mary-Anne Thomas is the current Member for Macedon and the 2018 Victorian state election Labor candidate for the seat. Mary-Anne grew up in a small farming community in north-east Victoria. Prior to being elected into parliament in 2014 Mary-Anne enjoyed a career across the public, private and community sectors. She began her working life as a secondary teacher, then representing working people through the union movement before becoming an advisor to Lynne Kosky, the former Minister for Post-Compulsory Education, Employment and Training. Mary-Anne has also held roles in the Victorian public service in Education and the Department of Premier and Cabinet where she was Head of Communications. She also held senior roles at the National Bank of Australia and then Plan International, one of the world’s leading child rights and international development agencies. Since her election Mary-Anne served as Parliamentary Secretary for Health over two years from 2014 – 2016 as well as Parliamentary Secretary for Carers from July – November 2016. She is currently the Cabinet Secretary in the Andrews Labor Government since November 2016. On a more personal note, Mary-Anne is an avid reader who enjoys running, spending time with my family and enjoying all that life in Macedon has to offer. As a member of St Kilda Football Club, she continues to live in hope of another Premiership in her lifetime.

“Only Labor understands that gender inequality is the root cause of family violence. I’m running again to ensure our world leading family violence reforms are delivered in full. I know we can end family violence - but only if we elect progressive Labor women!”
