Sonya Kilkenny is the current Member for Carrum and the 2018 Victorian state election Labor candidate for the seat. Before entering Parliament in 2014 Sonya was a commercial lawyer. She also worked for several years as a lawyer with the Kimberley Land Council in Broome and as corporate counsel with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation in Melbourne. She tutored in law at Monash and Melbourne Universities. Sonya was on the board of Back to Back Theatre, a theatre group for intellectually disabled actors, and the National Theatre in St Kilda. Sonya is a member of the Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee and she is currently the Emily’s List Victorian Co-Convenor, the Victorian Labor Women’s Caucus Co-Convenor and Chair, Commonwealth Women’s Parliamentarian Victorian Branch. Sonya grew up in Sydney, the US and Hong Kong. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of New South Wales and post graduate studies at Melbourne University. Sonya is married with one son and lives in Seaford.
