Lyla became the second woman elected to the WA Legislative Council when she entered Parliament in 1971, and was the sole woman in the WA Parliament until 1974.
Lyla chaired the Domestic Violence Taskforce and was integral to the passing of key legislation relating to alcohol and drug regulation and family planning nurses.
