Heidi Heck for Clark
Heidi Heck is your Federal Labor Candidate for Clark.
Heidi has seen firsthand how a Labor Government can change people's lives. At age 16 she dropped out of high school to help support her family through working on farms and in kitchens. But it was thanks to free TAFE she was able to complete her education and is now studying law.
Like many Tasmanians, Heidi has been forced to put off seeing a doctor due to the cost. She knows it didn’t used to be like that, all you should need to get the health care you need is your Medicare card. Labor will rebuild Medicare and make seeing the doctor free again for all Tasmanians.
Under Anthony Albanese and Labor, we’ve opened five Medicare Urgent Care Clinics including two in Hobart, a free specialist endometriosis and pelvic pain clinic in Glenorchy and made medicines cheaper. Making it easier for Tasmanians just like Heidi to get the care they need and take pressure of the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department
Tasmanians can’t risk a Peter Dutton led government, one that wouldn’t protect TAFE or Medicare.

Sarah Race for Flinders
Hi. I’m Sarah Race, your local Labor candidate for Flinders.
I love the Peninsula and I’m raising my family here.
I’ve passionately advocated for our community, volunteering with local groups and serving on Council.
My priorities are to:
-
-
-
-
-
- Deliver government investment to make life easier and more affordable
- Support locals with childcare, aged care, health and mental health care
- Protect our lifestyle and environment in this amazing part of the world
-
-
-
-
From my kids’ kinder committee to sports clubs and business groups, I’ve been putting my hand up for many years for our community.
I chose to raise my family here because I have such happy memories of the Peninsula and a strong family connection to the area going back generations. We love our beachside lifestyle and getting involved in local clubs and activities. We especially love going to music festivals and getting out on the water.
When I moved here it was affordable for families like us. But that’s changing. Keeping the Peninsula family-friendly is one of the many things I will fight for as the member for Flinders.
Decisions are made by government. As part of a Labor government, I will deliver for the Peninsula.
For 40 years the Coalition has taken our area for granted. We are one of the last 'safe' Liberal seats in Victoria.
If you are sick of the Peninsula being overlooked, vote 1 Sarah Race – Labor candidate for Flinders.
Sonny Stephens for Gippsland
Sonny Stephens has spent her whole life a Gippslander. She was born, raised, educated and has worked on Gunaikurnai country, only spending three years elsewhere.
Sonny left high school to follow in the footsteps of her parents, who both served during World War 2, serving our nation in the defence force for three years. Her years in the Army taught her a strong work ethic, discipline, timeliness, organisational ability and a sense of duty and service, that is still a key part of who she is today.
After leaving the Army, a Whitlam Labor Government initiative allowed Sonny to pursue a tertiary qualification, free of charge. This experience taught her how important educational opportunities are for all Australians, no matter where they live.
Sonny spent 20 years working in the public and private health, welfare and social support sectors across Gippsland, including five years with a General Practitioner organisation in East Gippsland, where she learnt first-hand the issues facing both doctors and patients in rural and remote locations.
Sonny, like many Gippslanders, has directly faced natural disasters with her rural property impacted by both fire and floods over the years. Her lived experience was invaluable when she worked in disaster recovery with Government Departments and Local Government following three major disasters in Gippsland. This included the Great Divide fire of 2006/7, the 2007 major flood affecting most river systems and the 2009 Black Saturday fires affecting the Strzelecki Ranges. Her lived experience combined with her recovery work has given Sonny a deep commitment to disaster preparedness, ways to mitigate impacts on people and the environment, and the urgent need for action on climate change.
For the last 20 years Sonny has been devoted to agriculture; firstly, with a beef enterprise then lucerne and crop growing and finally as the Manager of an Agricultural Contracting Service to other farmers in the mid Gippsland and Macalister Irrigation Districts. She knows and has lived the pressures faced by farmers and farming communities and how much hard work and sacrifice is needed to sustain a small business in Gippsland. She knows and understands how crucial small businesses are in local communities, both as employers and participants in the community.
Sonny has two daughters and lives in Cowwarr with her youngest who is a Disability Pensioner with complex chronic medical conditions. Sonny was raised by a physically disabled mother and is acutely aware of what it is like for 5.5 million Australians with a disability.
Sonny’s great passion is gardening, supplying the family with fruit and vegetables and revegetating her property creating habitat for birds and mammals and protecting against erosion, in between Melbourne Storm matches, that is.
As a life member of the Australian Labor Party, Sonny has demonstrated a deep commitment to Labor values that put people first. She is an advocate for people like herself who choose to live, raise their families and work in regional, rural and remote locations in Gippsland.
Sonny has lived most of her life in small country towns giving her a strong sense of community. She has been and always will be a true Gippslander.

Kim Travers for Nicholls
I am running for Nicholls in Central Victoria. A large electorate, rural with manufacturing and agriculture in large measures. Nicholls is a seat of great diversity and deserves a representative who will listen to all voices. It is a difficult seat with years of conservative history (previously known as Murray). Voters I have spoken to think it is time for a change.
The values of EMILY’s List are at the beating heart of all my political engagement. Having joined in 2003, I have discovered a sisterhood and real, tangible support for women in politics. It’s not enough to be a spectator and women get that. It has been a great journey with EL across Queensland and into the Victorian landscape in 2009. I am passionate about Pro Choice and expanding those reproductive health services into rural and regional Victoria is vital. The opportunities I had as a youth with free education and our Medicare system helped me so much as a young mum using the public health system. It’s all under threat with Dutton! Labor has had a fantastic first term and I ‘ve seen how new policies have helped so many people in my small town already, and there is more to do. Only Labor has a real plan and EMILY’s women can be relied on to deliver! This election, think as I do … Women’s Labour 4 Labor Women! See you on the hustings.
Fiona Mackenzie for Wannon
I was born in Tassie and raised in Melbourne and have chosen to live in this most beautiful region of western Victoria.
My teaching career of forty years began in technical schools and included working as a Community Education Officer. I have always believed in the importance of trades and apprenticeships. To undertake the challenge I posed to Year 12 students - that 'You can do anything' - I resigned from teaching and became a sales rep in the metal industry, selling high-nickel alloys. As a student, I worked as a steward at the Naval & Military Club and a clerk within Bostik’s office.
After I had my daughter, I returned to teaching and spent twenty years at Melbourne Grammar School, where I wrote and produced the School Play. I am divorced and raised my daughter within my parents’ home in Bulleen, Melbourne. During that time, working full-time as a teacher and a sole-parent, I also became my parents’ carer, looking after my mother for twenty years when she developed cancer. I gained more understanding of the aged care system and, later, nursing homes.
When bringing Melbourne students to camp at 'Kangaroobie', I realised that having a small place, including land and animals, in the Otways' hinterland, was possible. I fulfilled my dream seven years ago. I have taught in a number of areas: Preston, Coffs Harbour, Brunswick, Macleod, Lilydale and, finally Timboon, with its wonderful agricultural program.
I became more actively involved in politics when my daughter, as a young child, said to me that I could do something about climate change. I believe that it is my duty to do what I can to make the world a better place. My daughter, now an adult, is an artist and business owner. I believe in the value of enterprise and hard work but also recognise that the mark of a good society is one which looks after others. I have always been a unionist and want to see the best outcomes for the hardworking people of Wannon.
Now retired from teaching, I enjoy spending time with my dogs, including two Maremma puppies, cats, sheep, ducks, chooks and geese – and receiving the many visitors of friends and family. I read works of anthropology and archaeology and am learning about the area in the company of locals involved in Landcare, the Historical Society and Field Naturalists. Although change is inevitable, I want to see the best for future generations.
My motto is: "It’s what we do next that counts."
